It’s been a while since I discontinued my daily blog posts. I have been bestowed much more free time lately and would like to pick it back up. Daily posts starting tomorrow! (Well, actually today if you think about it..)
My Stab at Enlightenment
November 28, 2008I heard some good things about the Enlightenment Window Manager; so I decided to give it a shot. There was something about enlightenment that I enjoyed, maybe the simplicity or the visual effects. Unfortunately the little ripple effect would max out my processor. The themes were ugly and it has an extremely steep learning curve. I’m sticking with my XFCE, looks great, easy to install themes, nice and light, What else could you ask for?
Heres enlightenment:

Heres XFCE:

I prefer XFCE, it doesn’t look so cheap…
I’m downloading Ubuntu 8.10
November 26, 2008I read on a forum that the new ubuntu supports my wireless card right out of the box. So, I’ll install it with wubi and if it works well, I might seek a more permanent installation.
I’m typing this from my iPod cause my computer is slow due to the 800 kb/s download speed. Only 9 more minutes! (that’ll be about 15 minutes total!)
Edit: just finished downloading, now I’m rebooting teh computer.
Edit: wubi has not worked so far, now I’m gonna so it the old fashoned way.
Well, live cd did not boot either and the disc check showed no errors. So, I quit…
Featured iPod Touch App 11-20-08
November 20, 2008I am going to start doing a featured iPod Touch App service for all of my loyal readers. (I would have called it app of the day, but I have already seen someone else’s blog with that name + I don’t want you all to think that this is daily!)
Note: all of these apps should work on the iPhone
Today’s featured app totally blew me away when I first used it. It is…
CUBE! by fernLightning
Here’s the description:
Cube is a singleplayer and multiplayer first person shooter that provides satisfying and fast oldskool gameplay. This opensource game is built on an entirely new and very unconventional engine. Cube is a landscape-style engine that pretends to be an indoor FPS engine, which combines very high precision dynamic occlusion culling with a form of geometric mipmapping on the whole world for dynamic LOD for configurable fps & graphic detail. Most of the engine design is targeted at reaching feature richness through simplicity of structure and brute force, rather than finely tuned complexity.
This iphone port is provided by fernLightning is a technology demo that supports all of the functionality of the desktop version including multiplayer, in-game editing, cooperative editing, demo recording, etc (though some of these are impractical on the iphone) – please visit the official Cube homepage http://www.cubeengine.com/ for more information. Furthermore we encourage people to check out the newest version of Cube – Cube 2: Sauerbraten – a far more powerful and modern version.
fernLighting thanks Wouter van Oortmerssen of dot3labs for his permission to release this port.
This is totally amazing! A first person shooter! For an iPod! (You won’t see that on a Zune)
With it’s default setting, it’s a little laggy. But with a few tweaks of graphics, it is very usable.
The controls are a little tough, that could be fixed in a later update (This is version 1 after all!)
I haven’t tried to multiplayer yet…
ITS HARD! (But I found a way to tweak that too!)
Overall, I give it 4/5 stars. It’s not perfect, but sure is amazing!

Does this look like it’s on an iPod to you?

Most of the games on my PC look worse…

Subject: Whose spider is that?Dear Jane, Are you sure this drawing of a spider is the one I sent you? This spider only has seven legs and I do not feel I would have made such an elementary mistake when I drew it.
Regards, David.

Subject: Re: Re: Whose spider is that?Hello, I am back and have read through your emails and accept that despite missing a leg, that drawing of a spider may indeed be the one I sent you. I realise with hindsight that it is possible you rejected the drawing of a spider due to this obvious limb ommission but did not point it out in an effort to avoid hurting my feelings. As such, I am sending you a revised drawing with the correct number of legs as full payment for any amount outstanding. I trust this will bring the matter to a conclusion.
Regards, David.

As you have not accepted my second drawing as payment, please return the drawing to me as soon as possible. Ipod App Test
November 16, 2008Just testing to see if the wordpress app I downloaded to my iPod is working. It looks like it is!
There must have been an update that fixed the problem I was having.
The iPod Touch
November 6, 2008Well, I got it! Here are my experiences:
- Everything is amazing!
- Except:
- I can’t seem to get the wordpress app to work…
- And Hotmail isn’t supported in the mail client (and that’ll never change!)
But otherwise, I’ve been frolicking in free apps, like lolcats. Speaking of lolcats, here’s one! (sent from my touch)

I had one that I was going to combine into a political statement but I seemed to have misplaced it…
